Travelodge Birmingham Maypole

Maypole Ln, Birmingham B14 5JF, UK – 0871 559 1896

Clean and convenient, good price. Breakfast excellent.

Lovely rooms, excellent staff, budget friendly

The Avenue Club and Lodge

Weoley Ave, Birmingham B29 6PP, UK – 0121 472 2910

Held a party here, really nice venue and food excellent. John and Charlotte were extremely friendly and helpful.

At £40 a night I was expecting a little more. First appearances are very negative, while everything is clean it all looks a little worn. However, the bedding is clean and comfy and the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water.

Awentsbury Hotel

21 Serpentine Rd, Birmingham B29 7HU, UK – 0121 472 1258

Fairly welcome reception. Rooms are clean but a little dated. Whole place could do with a lick of paint but for the price paid it was fine. I would happily stay here again if I'm working in the area.

A modest hotel which is comfortable and good value for money. Nice breakfast also. Would recommend

The Fighting Cocks

1 St Mary's Row, Birmingham B13 8HW, UK – 0121 449 0811

Excellent service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. At first we thought the menu was a bit pricey but when we saw the portion sizes...... wow! Talk about getting what you pay for. It's very rare a meal beats me but I had to admit defeat with the excellently cooked mixed grill. My 2 year old tipped some food on the floor and despite our protests the staff had a replacement brought out, even though most of the food had been eaten. We left very full and content. Would definitely recommend this beautiful pub.

Food is always fantastic here. I've never had any issues. Traditionally vist here every Christmas eve for drinks. Wonderful atmosphere. Keep in mind it can get very busy.

The Goose, Selly Oak

561 Bristol Rd, Birmingham B29 6AF, UK – 0121 472 3186

Love, love, love the Goose! Great service and wonderful staff, the food has always been to a great standard and really reasonable too! The staff are really friendly and Rocky is always around to joke and make sure everyone has a great time! The beer garden is the perfect solution to sunny days and is the only place to be in the summer! There's not many places that can say they are equally popular with students and locals and yet the Goose manages this with ease, whether you're stressed out with deadlines or you just need to chill after a long day at work, it's the perfect place to be (plus Rocky's upbeat energy could cheer anyone up)! If you need somewhere to while away the time in Birmingham you couldn't choose a friendlier or more atmospheric pub!

Amazing venue with staff out of this world serving decent food and a good selection of beer. This is the hub of Selly Oak, known by all locals and students as the place to go, a proper pub. If you're lucky enough, you may come across a man known as Rocky (the man, the myth, the legend of Selly Oak).. Such a kind fellow, depending on his mood may give you a drink or take your drink! Won't accept tips but I'm sure he'll be up for cheeky peck😏

The Red Lion

Vicarage Rd, Birmingham B14 7LY, UK – 0121 444 2803

I have always driven passed this pub. I went for a one to one meeting. Lovely place but too many small flies. Annoying. Apart from that, nice. Parking is good too.

We didn't eat so can't comment on the food. Met friends for drinks. Plenty of parking and a great relaxed comfy atmosphere but you're not frowned at when conversation gets a little louder. Fun pub.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!
